The series humanizes events such as the destruction of Hosnian Prime and provides more context to the First Order and its influence on the galaxy.
While Kaz acts as a spy for the Resistance, the series also shows what life was like during this time period for the more ordinary citizens of the Colossus, even as the Outpost transforms into a mobile base traveling the galaxy as the series continues. The closest series to Andor's predicted focus thus far is the underrated Star Wars Resistance, which focuses on Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono and the residents of Colossus, a refueling outpost, during the rise of the First Order. At first, Star Wars: The Mandalorian seemed like it might provide more grounded storytelling, but Season 2 shifted more toward learning about Grogu's Force abilities and Mandalorian politics and succession rules. And while Star Wars: The Bad Batch does show the Empire's effects on more ordinary people, Clone Force 99 are all super soldiers genetically engineered to have capabilities beyond the abilities of most people. In the realm of canonical Star Wars television series, both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels saw strong focuses on Jedi and the Force. The Star Wars franchise has featured grounded storytelling before, but these stories mostly have flourished in the print media. Thus, it might be able to provide more grounded storytelling than Star Wars: The Mandalorian and the upcoming Ahsoka and Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. Instead of focusing on the Rebellion's flashier moments, Andor's missions might instead focus on the more grounded side of the Rebel Alliance and the cost of the Empire's rise on ordinary people's lives. Most of the recent Star Wars media has a strong emphasis on the Force, the Jedi and various power-ups, but Andor will be more of a spy thriller. While all of the upcoming live-action series set within the Star Wars universe will expand the galaxy far, far away, Star Wars: Andorprovides a unique opportunity to shift the focus of the franchise.
